When we talk about "website search ranking" we mean how far down the page your website appears when, for example, a customer uses a search engine like Google to search for "buying glass art".  Statistically it has been found that most people never go past page 1 of the search results!  So how do you get your website onto page 1?

This is where tools like online directories are quite useful. They will help your art glass business with two areas:

• The first is quite obvious:  a directory helps promote your business, products and services.
• The second is that having links back to your website increases your search ranking (i.e. helps move you up to the first page of search results).

1. Hotfrog.com.au is an online Australian business directory which is free to list your business on.  It's very easy step-by-step instructions will take you through the process and the bonus of this website is you get to list your products and services in detail if you want to spend another 10 minutes doing so.
2. Google Local Business Center lists your business, and then when people search for your products or services + a location (e.g. they type personal trainer sutherland into the search engine) at the top of the page Google displays a map pinpointing businesses in the area and providing links to further details like photos and website.
3. YellowPages Online is simply the online version of the YellowPages books. Did you know you can list your business for free online?  They let you list just your business name, phone number and address for free, or you can pay to have your website listed.
