Blogging about glass artistry in all forms

I've been playing a lot in my kiln lately, and I love making difference dishes and such, as you might have seen in a past post, but one thing always bothers me.

first, i trace out my mold/form shape, i score the glass
i fuse the pieces
i place my fused piece onto my mold or form and everything is perfectly sized
when i set my kiln to slump it never comes out how i'd hope.

take my last piece for instance:

when the piece slumps the edges are pulled down with it, which i'd somewhat expect, but something (like on this bowl) there's no edge left.  if you look at the left and top sides of the picture, there's no edge to the rim, where on the right side there is plenty edge.

the kiln is balanced and flat, but i'm still not getting very consistant results.

are there any tips or secrets on mataining a better overall shape?
